Sense Pillar

ロービジョンの抱える問題をサポートする「もうひとつの感覚器官」

Cause

People who have issues with eyesight or their fields of vision are said to have low vision; according to an investigation by WHO, there are currently around 61,000,000 people with low vision, and this number is trending upward. There are many causes for low vision, but there are certainly not enough products available which offer lifestyle support for these sufferers.

Solution

Intended to be more than just a crutch to support the body or a tool to help recognize surroundings, the shape and function of the FL-eyes were designed from scratch. The main shaft utilizes a carbon leaf spring to produce tensile strength and flexibility—and to provide propulsive power when touching the ground—in order to support users when they walk. The grip has built-in sensors to detect if there are obstacles ahead, and vibrates to alert the user. It provides route information to the user's destination via GPS, and the ELsheet attached to the leaf spring contributes to improved safety when moving around at night.
